Leo Romero is a Latino designer from P.G. County, Maryland who’s creating in Detroit. Leo’s “-izm” is the overarching motivator that drives his creative output as a designer: to enjoy the process. 	The good folks at LA VENTANA cafe were approaching their one year annivesary, and approached me to create some designs to help them celebrate the milestone.&#38;nbsp;

	ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY:
The objective was simple: utilize two colors and include coffee. I opted to use a nice deep blue that aligned with the existing LA VENTANA branding as well as black. Final prints done on RISO by Small Works Detroit.

	LA VENTANA SHIRT:
The LA VENTANA shirt began life as a traditional sketch done on paper with a black POSCA paint marker (my drawing tool of choice). I then scanned and digitized the sketches in Adobe Illustrator. Final screen printing was done by Joe Reilly of ALL MOTION STUDIOS, photography by James Adams of monochrome.red

	Created for the trend forecast atelier House of Raw, I had the opportunity to design the brand identity for their art showing and trend forecast presentation titled DESIGN VISIONS. 	DESIGN VISIONS TREND BOOKLET:
Sixteen page booklet that was given out to viewers of the event. Designed and formatted in InDesign with spotlight spreads on the four key forecast themes: Practical Existence, Biophillic Proportions, Down to Earth, and Not Just Nostalgic.

	DESIGN VISIONS INSTAGRAM SQUARES:
Designed in trios for Instagram, 11 fabric and textile artists provided their work for the DESIGN VISIONS presentation. I designed a container that could be applied to each work, communicating the artist name, title, and medium(s) of choice as well as showing the artists creations.

	LET TYPE TALK

	Let Type Talk is a 32 page book written as a tribute to the late
designer Herb Lubalin. He was a decorated type manipulator, so as
a tribute, I decided to let my own type talk in the form of
typographic sketches done on little note cards, and scanned into the
spreads. The process included several draft spreads and a lot of
note card sketches. All of what you see was crafted by me, text
included. I even bound the book myself. Overall, creating this
was a great lesson in concentration, as I was stuck in my room
creating this while the world outside was seemingly crumbling.

	MESSOGRAPHY

	MESSOGRAPHY is an anti-specimen book with spreads populated by the words of Jonathan Hoefler, subjected to the abuse from my letterforms. These letterforms were created from random generation with a variety of tools, type weights, and adjectives leading the process. Tools included toilet brushes, mops, sneakers, uncooked pasta and fingerpainting. The goal was to create from pure spontaneity, letting&#38;nbsp; chance decide the rest. A lot of these letterforms were created on found pieces of Foamcore® of varying sizes as well as 11x17 sheets of paper.

	Did you know that music producers recycle too? They use a sneaky little technique known as Sampling, where audio snippets sourced from all over are appropriated and incorporated into beats and songs. Once a controversial technique, now sampling is found in genres ranging from Hip Hop to Alt Rock and even Country Music!&#38;nbsp; Using type, music, imagery and my own voice, I explain to you just what Sampling is.

	Lurk - Lyric Video

	A lyric video for The Neighbourhood song Lurk from their 2014 album #000000 &#38;amp; #FFFFFF. The objective was to animate the lyrics of a song using conventional motion techniques; my approach is type heavy with minimal image use. I choose an approachable pink, white, and black to juxtapose the paranoid yet gluttonous nature of the song, where the lead singer lists all of their wonders and wants.

Hand-coded from scratch with the help of my friends Thomas Mcelmeel and LaSean Marie, LTTRKLLR is an open-source type drawing program complete with a grid that denotes the cap-height, x-height, and baseline of a letter. But if that bores you worry not; the grid can be turned off! Proportions be-dammed, LTTRKLLR can be a doodling program too.
